## Challenge

NKC Nakanishi Metal Works asked for a new camping experience using cooling. Outdoor cooking is central to camping, yet almost no outdoor gear uses low temperatures.

## What the team learned

Hot smoking at 50–80 degrees suits mainly advanced campers. Cold smoking keeps nutrients and blends aroma without melting food, and its mild scent also suits beginners.

## What they built

Mogii is a portable cold-smoking device for camping and home. A removable cup burns smoke chips, a micro cooling compressor chills the smoke, and food on removable trays absorbs it under a glass lid. Users set temperature and timer.

## Results

- Described as holding about -10 to 10 °C, smoking foods that normally cannot be smoked within 15 minutes.

## Full project text

Mogii is an outdoor cooking device that specializes in super cold smoking. With Mogii, campers can smoke various foods at -10℃ by simply burning smoke chips. Mogii allows campers to share their first-hand surprises and taste discoveries with others.

### Challenge

Our challenge is to create a new camping experience utilizing “cooling”.
Even with the increasing diversity of camping trends in recent years, outdoor cooking always remains one of the most important activities for all campers. To enjoy the camping cooking experience, campers are looking for new cooking devices that can deliver delicious camping food with a wide range of ingredients in a simple process.
Even though controlling the temperature is one of the important methods of cooking, there are few outdoor cooking gear utilizing cooling.

### Solution

Mogii is an outdoor cooking device that specializes in "Super cold smoked food".
Super cold smoking is a new cooking method which smokes foods while controlling the temperature between -10℃ and 10℃. Compared to other methods of smoking, some ingredients can be melted or grilled. However, Mogii allows a variety of ingredients to be smoked in a good condition.
With Mogii, campers can smoke foods for roughly 15 minutes by simply burning smoke chips. This simple cooking process gives campers a taste of the unknown "super cold smoking" that cannot be experienced at higher temperatures.

### Impact

Using cooling technology, Mogii gives the camp food a new depth of flavors and expands the range of foods that can be cooked at the campsite. This makes Mogii an innovative outdoor cooking gear ment for all campers.
Our target are people who pursue unknown tastes whilst camping that can be loved by men and women of all ages.

In addition, Mogii enhances sociability by bringing everyone together at the campsite to share their first-hand surprises and new taste discoveries. Mogii allows campers to take their taste buds on a journey into the unknown.
