What happened, step by step.

01

Challenge

Merchant seafarers communicate, document, maintain and monitor at the same time. Screen-based systems and manual paperwork interrupt this work and add cognitive load when hands and attention are already busy.

02

What the team learned

The team found that maritime professionals often need information and operational support while their hands and attention are already engaged in critical work.

03

What they built

A voice-first AI consultant. Operators speak naturally to retrieve information, check schedules, get contextual support and complete operational records. The system interprets intent and context and converts spoken input into structured documentation, without replacing professional judgement.

04

Impact

For the Deep Blue Foundation and maritime stakeholders, the concept shows how human-centred AI could reduce documentation effort while supporting crew well-being, privacy and trust.

BlueCore AI is a voice-first operational support system that helps maritime professionals access information, document work, and manage routine tasks through hands-free conversational interaction.

Challenge

Merchant seafarers operate in high-pressure environments where communication, documentation, maintenance, monitoring, and decision-making often happen at the same time. Through our research, we found that maritime professionals frequently need access to information and operational support while their hands and attention are already engaged in critical work. Traditional screen-based systems and manual documentation can interrupt workflow, increase cognitive load, and make routine tasks harder to complete efficiently. Addressing this challenge is relevant because better access to information and smoother administrative processes can support safer operations, stronger coordination, and more sustainable maritime work.

Solution

BlueCore AI is a voice-first AI consultant designed to support maritime operators through hands-free, conversational interaction. Instead of requiring users to stop, type, or navigate multiple systems, BlueCore allows operators to speak naturally to access information, document activities, check schedules, receive contextual support, and complete operational records. The system interprets user intent, understands relevant context, and helps convert spoken input into structured documentation. By aligning with real maritime workflows, BlueCore supports information retrieval, administrative efficiency, crew connection, and well-being without replacing professional judgment.

Impact

BlueCore creates value by helping maritime professionals stay focused while reducing friction in documentation and information access. For users, it supports hands-free interaction, faster reporting, clearer communication, and improved workflow continuity during demanding operations. By reducing repetitive administrative effort, BlueCore can help crews preserve time, attention, and mental energy for critical responsibilities. For sponsors and maritime stakeholders, the concept demonstrates how human-centered AI can improve operational efficiency while supporting workforce well-being, privacy, and trust.
