The project · from brief to prototype

What happened, step by step.

01

Challenge

The Badisches Landesmuseum asked how to bring the museum closer to its target groups and make it part of people's everyday life.

02

What they built

Center Piece is the museum's interactive learning platform. Citizens and the museum co-create courses from modules for learning, interaction and activity, using videos, chatbots and the online catalogue. It links to platforms people already use.

03

Impact

The museum can reach people who are not typical visitors and learn from them; users get a place to experiment, share skills and meet like-minded people.

Center Piece is an integrated design, dialogue, and learning platform that enables users to easily consume and create diverse content and allows society to interact with the museum and to co-create together.

Challenge

The challenge was given to bring the museum and their target groups closer to each other and make the museum a crucial element of people’s everyday life.

Solution

Center piece is a platform for digital content creation that appeals to citizens and museums alike, promotes dialogue and low-threshold learning, and integrates with established online behavior.
Center Piece allows the society to interact with the museum and to co-create together; so-called "modules". These can be mini-courses, activities, thematic debates, or stories. For this, they can use numerous media, e.g. videos or chatbots. In this context, museums have the opportunity to make their online catalogs available for use in modules. The modules created in this way can in turn be expanded by both sides into more comprehensive formats (e.g. courses). In addition, users can also use the modules and courses on Center Piece for further training, to be inspired by them, or to enter into subject-specific dialogs. Appropriate incentives encourage this behavior.
Center Piece is not a closed system. Rather, it is intended to integrate with the natural online behavior of users. Center Piece is thus a complementary online offering to popular platforms.

Impact

The platform opens up a digital space for creativity, dialogue, and co-creation. It allows the museum to reach out to people who haven’t been a typical museum visitor so far, to learn from and create with them. For users, it offers a place to experiment, a chance to find like-minded people, present their skills, share their and gain new knowledge.
