SUGAR+ Final presentation in Kyoto
Kyoto Institute of Technology hosts the local final presentations of the NKC/KAIMEN and Takeda projects.

Cohort · 2020/21
One academic year of SUGAR: from the Global Kick-Off in October to the SUGAR Expo in June.
Problem
Driver-assistance cameras must be recalibrated after every windshield replacement. Current tools are tedious and too bulky to bring to the customer, wasting technicians' and drivers' time.
What they built
Designed with technicians, beamm uses self-centring tyre targets and a slide-and-lock aluminium frame. A laser rangefinder captures positions and software guides the panel into place in two steps.
Impact
Twice as fast without losing precision, and it fits in a van. Drivers wait less, technicians serve more customers and widen their range.
Center PieceA platform where citizens and museums co-create courses, debates and stories from museum content.Badisches LandesmuseumKarlsruhe DE · Warsaw PLProblem
Bring the museum and its target groups closer together and make the museum part of people's everyday life.
What they built
Center Piece lets museums and users build modules such as mini-courses, activities or debates from online catalogues, using videos or chatbots. It integrates with existing online behaviour rather than replacing it.
Impact
The museum reaches people who never visited and learns from them. Users get a place to experiment, share skills and find like-minded people.
Problem
How might CRIF engage current and future clients in B2C and B2B2C, with a focus on Gen Z, whose needs differ from earlier generations?
What they built
ESGo scans products and searches companies, returning an easy-to-read ESG score based on quantified factors. Users share ideas and discuss products with their community.
Impact
Gen Z makes informed, responsible purchases. CRIF, trusted in credit scoring, builds a relationship with a generation it must address differently.
Problem
How might digital experiences scale global innovation across Nestlé's brands and continents while fostering trustworthy innovation capabilities?
What they built
A browser extension lets employees add findings to their projects and share them. Knowstlé identifies similar projects, connects their members and recommends useful articles.
Impact
Less double work and frustration, and silos broken between departments and locations.
MogiiAn outdoor cooking device for super cold smoking at the campsite, for Nakanishi Metal Works / Kaimen.NKC Nakanishi Metal WorksKyoto JP · Melbourne AUProblem
Create a new camping experience using cooling. Outdoor cooking is central to camping, yet almost no gear uses low temperatures.
What they built
Mogii smokes food between -10°C and 10°C by simply burning smoke chips, in roughly 15 minutes. Ingredients that would melt or grill at higher temperatures stay in good condition.
Impact
New flavours and a wider range of campsite food, shared around the campsite.
Problem
Migrant students in Finland score 25% lower than native peers, largely because of language. Remote learning during COVID-19 widened the digital divide.
What they built
Schools grant access to Nosta, where an algorithm forms dynamic peer groups supported by facilitators. Learning happens through game-based activities that build friendship alongside language.
Impact
Students expand vocabulary and gain confidence in Finnish, which improves school performance and later job prospects.
Problem
Psoriasis patients face stigma and lifelong treatment, and often abandon it. Consultations last 15 minutes, leaving little time to understand symptoms.
What they built
Patients log medical history, symptoms and crises in one app. During consultation, the physician opens a board view with a temporary code. Reminders and pharmacy ordering complete the service.
Impact
Consultations save time for both sides and focus on what matters. Patients carry less mental load and engage more in their care.
SuaFazendaAn urban-farming ecosystem with hydroponic units in apartment buildings and an ordering app.Fazenda CuboSão Paulo BR · Dublin IEProblem
Transporting produce has a high carbon cost and much of it goes uneaten. Urban life disconnects people from where food grows.
What they built
Fazenda Cubo handles germination and data. Hydroponic units in condominium buildings grow and hold produce ordered through an app; motivated users finish growing at home.
Impact
The freshest produce at the doorstep with less energy, water and no pesticides. Fazenda Cubo gains loyal customers and needs smaller premises.
Problem
International transfers are a hassle: hidden costs, complicated input and uncertain status. PostFinance was losing customers in this service.
What they built
SwiEasy works without opening a new account, needs fewer clicks and supports cards, bank accounts or payment at the Post Office. It shows exchange rate, cost and shareable real-time tracking.
Impact
Secure, transparent transfers for users. PostFinance retains customers and reaches new ones through a marketing plan built around sharing.
Problem
Replacing a vehicle's glass is complex. How can the efficiency and quality of service in repair centres improve?
What they built
Vigia handles inventory checks, stock movements, scheduling and customer registration, with a dashboard that summarises operational information.
Impact
Faster, more accurate stock control and smoother scheduling let repair centres serve more customers. Saint-Gobain could expand its database.
