What happened, step by step.
Challenge
PostFinance asked how to redesign parts of the Swiss retirement system for present and future needs. In an ageing society, individual savings matter more, yet many people, especially younger ones, save too little too late.
What the team learned
The team found two user types: the Critical Overachiever, who wants full control of her savings strategy, and the Easy-Going Individualist, who wants everything taken care of without getting involved.
What they built
desyre is a digital retirement platform that integrates data from all three pillars of the Swiss system. A passive Savings Assistant runs automated microsavings, while an active Retirement Cockpit visualises goals, insurance and family interdependencies. An intelligent chatbot answers questions.
Impact
The team aims to prepare users for retirement as state systems become less reliable, and to keep even hands-off savers financially healthy.

desire is a digital platform with two Interfaces, the “desyre Retirement Cockpit” and “desire Savings Assistant,” that facilitates retirement planning for its users by integrating all three columns of the Swiss retirement system.
Challenge
How might we redesign (parts of) the retirement ecosystem of today and tomorrow in Switzerland to meet established and developing circumstances and needs of the present and the future?
Solution
Desire as an eco-system with two interfaces for its users, allows efficient and effective planning of your retirement and related issues. The degree of user engagement depends on the chosen interface and ranges from a passive role (desyre Saving Assistant) to an active role (desyre Retirement Cockpit). Further desyre offers easy to understand visualizations of your financial goals regarding retirement and of potential family interdependencies.
Impact
This allows for a prepared entry into retirement, in a time when state run systems are becoming less reliable and users therefore have to depend on their individual savings. The “desyre Saving Assistant” ensures the financial health of users that do not wish to actively plan retirement savings. This results in a better overview and less constraints during your retirement as many preserves and gives back a certain degree of freedom in retirement.
